Alan J. Tackett, PhD, is a Distinguished Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), where Tackett holds the Scharlau Family Endowed Chair for Cancer Research and serves as Deputy Director of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. Tackett earned a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology at UAMS and completed postdoctoral training in cancer epigenetics and proteomics at The Rockefeller University.

Tackett’s research uses proteomics and systems-based approaches to discover cancer biomarkers and pathways of resistance to therapy. The Tackett lab’s translational team of researchers, oncologists, surgeons, and pathologists studies why some patients, particularly those with metastatic melanoma, respond poorly to immunotherapy, and uses those findings to design new treatments.

Tackett is principal investigator of the NIH Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) in systems biology at UAMS and of the NIH National Resource for Quantitative Proteomics, and has served on and chaired many COBRE and INBRE external advisory committees. On the PAC-AID External Advisory Committee, Tackett advises on the Center’s scientific direction, rigor, and path to sustainability.
